Companies That Should Hire Me
1. Hellman Law Group

2. The San Diego Union-Tribune

3. Nexstar Media Group, Incorporated

Hellman Law Group is a law firm near my house that basically deals with divorce, child custody, and appellate law. This actively illustrates that they assist with the legal process of divorce, help debate child custody battles, as well as help those who wish to appeal their case to higher courts, or appellate courts, which essentially means presenting it in front of state or federal courts.

As a communications major with a dream of going to law school, I would be a very valuable asset to their company because I have experience already with law and argumentation from classes I’ve taken. I would be a good intern for Hellman Law Group because I am interested in a career in law so there is potential that after graduating and getting my J.D. I would go back and work for them.

The San Diego Union-Tribune is a daily newspaper in San Diego, California. This newspaper was founded all the way back in 1868. Basically what they do here is they have lots of journalists who find intriguing news stories and write articles about them in the paper. These articles can be as small as anything from a new event at the zoo, to as big as the fires burning down california.

I would be a smart hire at this company because of my communications background. Many journalists were comm majors who possibly even had a concentration in journalism. By thoroughly studying the art of communication I would be able to help out a lot as an intern, or write strong interesting articles myself as an employee.

Nexstar Media Group, Incorporated is a Media company that runs many news channels all around the country. They control Fox 5 San Diego, a news media company near me. This company discovers, writes, and reports fascinating news stories, much like the aforementioned San Diego Union-Tribune, but instead of publishing it in the paper they read it on television, for those who prefer tv to the paper.

I would be a valuable employee here because of my communications major I have a very strong background in writing articulately, which is a vital skill to being a successful reporter, as well as I’m very comfortable with public speaking, which again is necessary to be a solid speaker while reporting the news to people.

People Who Do What I’m Interested In Doing

  1. Lawrence Hellman
  2. Jeff Mcdonald
  3. Kristina Audencial

Lawrence Hellman presents himself as a respectable professional with lots of experience. He clearly states and explains all of his accomplishments, such as cases he’s taken to the California Supreme Court, huge interviews he’s done, and prestigious job titles he previously held. When reading his website I was feeling like he is someone with a lot of experience who knows what they are doing.

Jeff Mcdonald is a writer/journalist for the San Diego Union-Tribune. As a member of the investigative reporting team at this company, he goes out and finds stories that he or others could potentially turn into a published article in the Union-Tribune’s daily paper. He presents himself as clear, concise, and experienced. Like Lawrence Hellman, he makes sure to clarify and explain his proudest accomplishments, such as being awarded journalist of the year in 2015 by the local Society of Professional Journalists. Mcdonald also makes a point to explain his personal focus as a journalist, which for him is government and institutional misconduct and waste in San Diego County and beyond.

While the other two’s websites were quite similar, Kristina Audencial’s website was slightly different. She is a news anchor for Fox 5 San Diego news, and what stood out to me about her website was that there was so much more personality. She shared a personal story from her childhood and lots of her random likes and dislikes. This makes sense because while she does have a professional job, she is also a public figure. She needs to be lively, vibrant, and interesting for people to want to watch her.

I would use a website to position myself as a promising candidate to be an employee, consultant, or summer intern for the companies I’ve listed in numerous ways.

Firstly, depending on the job position I would select whether to make my profile more serious and professional or more friendly and likeable. For example, if I was applying at a law firm, I would want to make my website very professional, serious, and factual. I wouldn’t include much of my personality, but instead fill it with only my accomplishments and impressive feats. On the other hand, if I was applying to be a news anchor I would want to include much more of my personality and come off as a very friendly and animated person, because those traits are more desirable for that position.

Secondly, I would make sure to very clearly state and explain my proudest accomplishments to boost credibility. This helps me to come off as experienced and successful which will make me more desirable to companies or clients.
